Top Plastic Surgery Treatments for the Elderly

One of the newest health trends among the elderly is plastic surgery. After spending a number of years working and taking care of others, they finally have the chance to take care of themselves. Those in their retirement years also have the funds necessary to treat themselves to some new procedures too. It wasn't that long ago that people became grandparents in their 60s, but as people wait to have kids, there are now grandparents welcoming their first grandchildren in their 70s or 80s. They rely on some of the top plastic surgery procedures and treatments to look and feel younger.

Breast Augmentation

The number of women over the age of 65 going in for a breast augmentation surgery increased dramatically in the last few years. These women grew tired of seeing their breasts start sagging or seeing their small breasts staring back at them in the mirror. During a breast augmentation surgery, the doctor will make a small incision either around the nipple or underneath the breast. The doctor then places a small implant inside the breast, which gives it a fuller and higher appearance, before closing the incision. Some elderly women also visit doctors for a breast lifting or tightening procedure.

Facelifts

It is almost impossible to have the same skin at an advanced age that you did as a teenager or college student. The body naturally slows down its production of collagen during your later years, which leads to your skin looking a little looser and flabbier than it did before. A facelift done at The Hospital Group or a similar facility can restore your skin. Doctors make a small series of incisions around the face and essentially pull and lift the skin back before closing those incisions. This smooths and tightens the skin on your forehead, chin and cheeks.

Liposuction

There is medical evidence that people of an older age have a harder time losing weight than younger people do. You may find that you have less energy and that you have a harder time working out for the amount of time you should. The elderly may also have problems doing the same exercises that younger people do, which makes it harder for them to burn fat. Talking with your doctor about liposuction helps you get rid of that extra weight. Doctors can perform liposuction on your buttocks, hips, thighs, stomach and even your face or neck.

Eye Lifts

Another cosmetic procedure common among the elderly is an eye lift. As you age, you might notice that your eye lids develop a saggy appearance. This occurs because of the loss of collagen you experience. It makes your eyes look droopy and may make you look older too. With an eye life, your doctor lifts and tucks your lids in the same way the surgeon would during a facelift. The only real difference is that these surgery focuses on your eyes and will not affect the rest of your face. This opens up your eyes to make your face look brighter and younger.

There is almost never a bad time to consult with a plastic surgeon. As you reach your older years, you might find that you benefit more from some of these common procedures than you would during your earlier years.
