Botox: How and Where to Use?

Despite all contradictory points of view, Botox remains one of the most spread means for beauty injections. After years of scientific researches, now Botox procedures are highly advanced. But when such practice was new, there were many fears about drug’s action, side effects, etc. Some of these concerns exist until today.

In this article, we want to reveal all myths about Botox injections, describe the indications, areas of application, side effects, and more.

Why Use Botox?

When do doctors apply Botox? If you ask this question an average person, he\she would probably answer: it’s a substance used in cosmetology for smoothing out wrinkles and face correction. Yes, this is a very effective remedy to mimic wrinkles elimination. But that’s not all - the majority of people don’t know that botulinum toxin type A is used to treat many diseases like eye squints, migraines, excessive sweating and more. Currently, it is used to treat more than 20 kinds of health problems. You can buy Botox online or make a purchase at a physical store. The drug is very spread on the market, but you should be attentive due to the number of counterfeit products.

How Does It Work?

Botox is a natural toxin causing paralyzing action. After injecting it into muscle tissue, the substance immobilizes this area. Since the muscle is relaxed it doesn’t contract and wrinkles become invisible. Until the action of the drug is over, the muscle gets used to a static position, and thus it is possible to prevent new wrinkles in the same place. The sooner you start fighting with wrinkle, the more possible it is to completely get rid with it.

Where Botox Is Injected?

Botox injections are mostly made for facial areas to correct horizontal forehead wrinkles, deep vertical lines between the eyebrows, “crow's feet” around the eyes and nasolabial folds, around the mouth wrinkles, etc. The drug can help to lift the corners of the lips and eliminate the second chins. Only licensed and experienced cosmetologist can perform the procedure. Botox injections require special technique because it may be injected only into safe facial areas like expression wrinkles. However, there are various methods for applying the drug for the neck and decollete zones.

The patient will notice the effect in a few days after the procedure and it will continue to improve during one-two weeks. How long does the effect last? It all depends on the patient’s metabolism and how quickly the body destroys a foreign substance. In general, a pronounced visible effect lasts around four months.

Precautionary Measures & Side Effects

Botox like any other remedy has side effects. However, the drug’s concentration is very little, so there no chance to have body intoxication or other serious consequences. In very rare cases patients may suffer from little facial asymmetry, change the form of mouth, overhanging eyelids.

Botox is very comfortable to use, the procedure lasts 10-15 minutes, and is almost painful. However, there’s a group of people who can’t get such a service due to the set of contraindications. Therefore, Botox is abandoned in cases of:

  • increased sensitivity to botulinum toxin type A;
  • strong muscle weakness;
  • blood diseases;
  • active infections on the injected area;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • taking antibiotics.
